You’ve got to find what you love

This is in continuation to my previous post How satisfied are you with your job? In that post I had mentioned a question that remained unanswered so far or may remain unanswered forever. But what do we do when we aren’t really satisfied with what we are doing? Well, look for another job. That is certainly the easiest answer but what is the guarantee that we will have job satisfaction there? I was talking to one of my friends today morning and he recently changed his job because he couldn’t find any reason to stay with his old employer. The compelling reason for leaving the old company was not doing anything that he loves to do. He was referring to one of the articles, in fact speech at Stanford University, by Steve Jobs, CEO, Apple. This article has enough motivational factors that talk about how important it is to find something that you love. Job is not an exception. How satisfied are you with your job?

“That new Sony cam coder…..” $300 “A new Tee at Old Navy….” $14.50 “Mexican Lunch…” $9.37 But…”Job satisfaction…..” Priceless Nope…This is not another Master Card commercial…. !! I have asked this question, Am I really happy with what I am doing?, to myself many times in my career so far. I have never got the same answer. There are many factors that influence this answer. That list could be very big but the important ones would be: Compensation & Benifits, kind of work you are doing, your team and it could even be your personal life. Some years back, it was just money that mattered. I wanted more and more money to manage my expenses. When I got what I needed, after my first job change, it was the struggle to do something that I always wanted to do. It has always been like this.
