I will also write a book…!!

Last afternoon I was at Chennai airport to board my return flight to Bangalore. This is my second very short visit to Chennai. I must call it a very short visit because my first visit was not a visit at all – lasted for an hour or so. There are lots of places to see in and around Chennai and also I had enough time, between my visa interview and the flight, to go around the city. Instead, I chose to stay at the airport and watch people. But I was quick enough to realize the boredom. So, I got in to a book shop and found this book “one night @ the call center” by Chetan Bhagat. I had recently read a review on Rediff and was quite curious to read this one. I quickly grabbed a copy for myself and shifted to a quite corner to start reading. This book – one night @ the call center — starts by describing how the author got the idea of writing the book and soon …

Debut in to scripting & programming

Long back, in fact very long, I had worked on Sun Solaris 8.0 and got my self SCSA certificate. During those days, I was a system administrator and used to do lot of work on monitoring user logons and creating new users, monitoring disk space, etc. That is when I started thinking about some scripting fundamentals so that I can automate some of my activities and concentrate more on useful stuff. Scripting had really brought some spice in to the boring life. Scripting is fun. I had enjoyed writing shell scripts and slowly started learning VBScripting, JScripting and Python. I wrote a network traffic monitoring tool for one of my customers and did lot of scripting on Windows starting from disk monitoring to set up disk quotas on a Windows NT 4.0 box. I had submitted some of my Unix shell scripts to Sun BigAdmin portal. Unfortunately, I could find only one link on that website http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/scripts/submittedScripts/killLogins.txt Here is another script that I had posted on Sun’s website ############################Start Script############################## #Description: #This script can create …

Welcome to my weblog

At last, 4 months after I had registered this domain name, I got a chance to work on the design. But I was not really impressed with the way I had designed and decided to give up on doing something on my own. My domain hosting provider gave me an option to install several weblog software. I had decided to go with WordPress after a looooonnnng process of evaluating the remaning stuff. History aside, I want to use this blog as a place where I can post all my “Un-Published” writings and will share my experiences in the field of computer programming, scripting, MS Windows, Linux, etc. There will be articles on VB scripting, JScript, Perl, Python, Unix Shell scripts, etc. All said and done, the views and opinions expressed herein are my OWN PERSONAL opinions and do not represent my employer’s view in any way. So, who is my employer? I do not want to disclose that till I get some clear information on my employer’s legal policies. I will try and keep the …
